Food Photography Clichés

August 1, 2008

I’ve been thinking about clichés in food photography, the kind of shot you see over and over in the magazines. Of course, I’m guilty of committing these just as much as the next photographer. Here’s one — the shot where three or more of the same items are arranged in a lineup going away from the viewer. For example, here’s a magazine shot I did a while ago.

Not to say this is a horrible thing to do, and I know the reasons: usually there’s a need to fill out a composition, and coming in on just one item makes it way too big — like the soup that swallowed Manhattan! Do you have any photographic clichés to add to the list?
